Why We Tell Some Customers Not to Order From Us

A short piece on the orders a gifting company should turn down, and why saying no protects everybody.

Most vendor websites are written to make you order. This one is partly about when you should not.

We run a bulk gifting business out of Bulandshahr and ship across India. We have a minimum order of fifty pieces, we work on fifty percent advance, and we dispatch in two to seven working days. There are several situations where, given those facts, we are the wrong choice — and it is cheaper for everyone if that is established in the first phone call rather than the third week.

If you need twelve pieces

Our minimum is fifty on most ranges and twenty-five on some premium metal lines. This is not an arbitrary policy. Below that quantity, the cost of sourcing, branding setup and packing does not spread across enough units, and you end up paying retail prices with wholesale service.

For a dozen gifts, a good retailer will serve you better and probably cheaper. We will say so.

If you need it in two days, in a remote location, with custom branding

We take urgent orders. We have turned around bulk gifting in under a week more than once.

But urgency has limits that are physical rather than commercial. Branding needs machine time. Transit to a remote location takes the days it takes. If you need five hundred laser-engraved items in Shillong by Thursday and today is Tuesday, the honest answer is no, and anyone who says yes is either planning to disappoint you or planning to skip the branding.

What we will do instead is tell you what is achievable by Thursday — usually an unbranded or packaging-branded version of the same gift, which is often perfectly good and arrives on time.

If the budget and the expectation do not meet

Sometimes a buyer has a per-head figure and a mental picture that cannot both be true.

A substantial hamper with a premium branded item inside at two hundred rupees a head does not exist, from us or anyone. What exists at that price is a decent, honest, smaller gift. We would rather have that conversation at quoting stage than send something that technically matches the brief and visibly disappoints.

The version of this that goes worst is when a vendor silently thins the contents to hit the price. The box arrives looking sparse, the buyer is embarrassed in front of their own management, and nobody says what actually happened. We would rather lose the order.

If you want us to be the cheapest

We are not always the cheapest and we do not try to be.

Bulk gifting has a wide quality range that is invisible in a photograph. Plating thickness on German silver, insulation performance in a bottle, paper weight in a notebook, the rigidity of a box. All of these can be reduced to hit a price, and all of them are undetectable until the gift is in someone's hands.

If price is the only criterion, there will always be a quote below ours. Sometimes it is a genuinely leaner operation. Often it is the same photograph with thinner plating.

What we are good at

Since this piece has been mostly negative, here is the other half honestly.

We are good at mixed-category orders where one vendor sourcing across brands and materials saves you real coordination — a programme with hampers for the floor, German silver for managers, and branded electronics for leadership, on one invoice.

We are good at volume with branding, where the quantity justifies the setup and the per-unit economics work.

We are good at multi-location dispatch, including home delivery, because we have built the process for it.

And we are good at telling you early when something will not work, which over a few years turns out to be the thing clients value most.

How to get a straight answer quickly

Lead with the constraint, not the product.

Tell us the date, the headcount, and the per-head budget first. From those three numbers we can tell you in one message what is possible, what is not, and where the trade-off sits. Starting with "I want a premium hamper" takes four exchanges to reach the same place.

If the answer is that we are not right for your order, we will say that, and usually suggest what is.

Send us the three numbers and we will come back the same day.
